Flipgrid is a social learning service that has 20 million users in 180 countries. Students and educators who use the platform will receive a refund if they have a current subscription. One important step Microsoft took after purchasing the platform was to make it free. During the Flipgrid LIVE event yesterday, Microsoft added some interesting new features to the platform. Leveraging Microsoft Azure, Flipgrid now automatically transcribes and closed captions videos. Elsewhere, a Shorts Camera tool allows students and educators to edit video segments into a single video.

New Flipgrid features

You can check out the changelog below:

“Transcription and Closed Captioning: Every Flipgridresponse video is now transcribed by Microsoft Azure and delivered through closed-captioning. FlipgridAR: Teachers and students can now create and print new FlipgridARstickers for any response to place Flipgrid videos in augmented reality on everything, “stick” student voice everywhere with FlipgridAR stickers, and use existing Flipgrid QR codes in schools around the world as they now work automatically with FlipgridAR. Topics: Students can find launch-ready discussion prompts (“Topics”) inside Educator Admin in the “Disco Library,” search 1,000’s of educator-created Topics by audience, subject, and goal.
