Now, Microsoft says the SkiFree-inspired surf game is coming back and will be available on the Chromium Edge browser. Widely available since January 15, the new Edge experience will support the game which works offline. Users will be to access three separated game modes: time trial, classic surf mode, and a slalom mode where you navigate through gates. In terms of the classic surf mode, users must avoid several obstacles while the kraken follows behind. If you hit an obstacle and the monster catches up, the game is over. Time trial mode functions a little like a running game. Microsoft has added coins and shortcuts that help to reduce time. This little browser game even comes with support for touch, keyboard and mouse, and even Xbox One gamepads. It seems Microsoft took this seriously and it’s a fully-fledge game. That is evidenced by the ability to record high scores, albeit locally stored.
Availability
Microsoft says the game is now available on Chromium Edge Canary and Dev channels. It will come to the main release version of the browser soon. If you want to play the game, head to edge://surf/ in the address bar in Edge. Yesterday, Microsoft started rolling out Edge automatically to Windows 10 users. Microsoft released its new Chromium Edge browser experience on January 15 following nearly a year of preview development. However, since the launch the new Edge has been optional for Windows 10 users.
