Now, the company is promising “all will be revealed” in a press event at the Game Developers Conference next month. Major press outlets have received invites to the mysterious event. In a teaser, Google showed a 3D animated hallway with a light at the end. It’s clear its GDC presentation is going to be very different this year, and Project Stream is the natural assumption. After the test with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it’s possible Google is willing to shed light on its long term plans for the service, how it will support developers, and possibly a release date.

The Competition

If so it’ll be competing directly with Microsoft’s xCloud, which is yet to have public tests but is planning for them this year. Microsoft believes its cloud infrastructure gives it a significant advantage, so it’ll be interesting to see how the services compare in terms of latency. Of course, this event could be about something else entirely, or simply the announcement of new games for testing. The fact it’s sending out press invites hints at something big, but we won’t know for sure until the event. Thankfully, there’s not too long to wait. Google’s GDC conference is scheduled for March 19 at 10 am PT.
