The new experience provides a blue underline for grammatical errors, checking as you type. It then lets you choose a grammatical correction, providing synonyms and tips to aid understanding. It also provides a dotted gold underline for more minor corrections. For example, PowerPoint may suggest that you cut a word for concision or use a different phrase. It puts it much closer to the job of an actual editor and applications like Grammarly....

For example, running x64 apps is off limits. Windows 10 on ARM supports ARM64 drivers but it won’t run apps. If an application or game was created for an x64 platform, you won’t be able to access it. That’s a problem considering the vast number of apps that are x64. Back in May, we reported on Microsoft was working on a feature that would allow users to run x64 apps in an emulator....

Though it was considering the use of a master password before each autofill but worried that would lull users into a false sense of security and compound the issue. The main threat in this scenario comes from family members borrowing a device, and Microsoft doesn’t believe a single layer of protection is sufficient. “Requiring entry of a master password prior to autofill has been proposed as a solution for this in the past,” said Microsoft Edge’s engineers....

It is worth noting that the automatic roll out is happening through Windows Update. This is once again a normal Windows launch, so the October 2018 Update will be rolling out in stages. That means for the moment, only select devices are receiving the update. Microsoft has been on a long journey to get to this stage. Indeed, the automatic roll out comes over three months after the company first unveiled Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) and started the original release cycle....

Sure, smartphone batteries have improved, but not in line with power consuming components like screens and tasks. Mobile GPUs now churn out a level of graphics quality that allows casual gamers to replace a console or PC. These GPUs come at a cost of massive battery loss. Moderate use gets you barely a day from a flagship device, but when gaming you can slash that to a few hours. Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) and Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) thinks there is a solution....

There have been a couple of recent hints that a $400 Surface tablet will arrive soon. Microsoft suffered a leak of its Surface roadmap last month, which detailed the affordable Surface and Surface Phone (backed by the AndromedaOS). We already know the Surface Phone has probably gone, although Andromeda will likely live on. However, the affordable Surface tablet is a more probably device and new evidence supports its launch this year....

Built on the QUIC protocol, the MsQuic library is already used across Microsoft’s businesses. It is a C library that is designed to manage QUIC data connections in products. It is available on both Windows and Linux. If you are not familiar with QUIC, it is a new protocol for data transfer. QUIC, or “Quick UDP Internet Connections” is currently being processed into a standard by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)....

As well as those 77 vulnerability fixes, Microsoft has issued fixes for two zero-day flaws that it says were exploited in the wild. First of those zero-day vulnerabilities has been coded as CVE-2019-0880 and is described as an elevation of privilege bug. This flaw was widespread, occurring across Windows Server 2012, 2016, and 2019, as well as Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Microsoft rated the bug as “important” in its severity rating and says attacks could allow bad actors to gain access to a system....

While Microsoft has insisted that data remains open, and LinkedIn has followed by maintaining privacy for its users, what about non-users? Interestingly, LinkedIn is being investigated for violating privacy of non-users by using their data. The obvious question is how the company can compromise data of people who don’t use the service. Well, LinkedIn users often grant access to their email contact books on the website. If you use Microsoft’s business network, you will be familiar with this ability....

A core part of the service is the company’s Plasma Bot, a fairly simple chat-based multiple choice survey that determines whether a person is eligible to donate blood. It covers factors such as how long ago a person was infected, if they meet minimum health requirements, and whether they have underlying health conditions such as HIV. Upon meeting all of those criteria, it refers users to their nearest plasma collection center....

To do so, it uses AI to analyze content across an enterprise and its various teams. This lets it determine the type of content, extract relevant information, and link projects, processes, and customers without user input. As you’d expect, it builds on Microsoft Graph to do this, as well as SharePoint’s content sharing and services like AI image and text recognition. The sheer volume of the company’s enterprise services lets it naturally deliver a wealth of information....

Windows Admin Server’s browser-based functionality extends to server operating systems, virtual machines/clusters, windows client, and will eventually support Azure. “Windows Admin Center is a new, locally-deployed, browser-based management tool set that lets you manage your Windows Servers with no Azure or cloud dependency. Windows Admin Center gives you full control over all aspects of your server infrastructure and is particularly useful for managing servers on private networks that are not connected to the Internet,” explains Microsoft....

Analysts are aiming for a 5.3% year-on-year increase on EPS (earnings per share) at $1. However, unless a major drop below expectations is recorded, it seems Microsoft can do little wrong at the moment. The company has vastly overperformed according to analyst predictions in recent years. CEO Satya Nadella has steered the company to huge success based on cloud technology. Even during the last quarter when revenue dipped 4% short of expectations, few actively criticized the situation....

Users require a download speed of at least 10 Mbps on a 5GHz Wi-fi or data connection. they also need an Xbox Wireless Controller, and Android 6.0 or greater. Access to the streaming service on phones is made possible by the Xbox Game Streaming App, but it only shows a splash screen if you don’t have a testing invite. “Public preview is a critical phase in our multi-year ambition to deliver game streaming globally at the scale and quality of experience that the gaming community deserves and expects....

Your Phone allows users to mirror what appears on a smartphone screen to their PC. Android smartphone users can test the app in a limited capacity. The feature set so far is the ability to drag and drop photos into Office applications and other Microsoft Windows 10 apps directly from a phone. In other words, users can drag an image from their handset and drop it on their PC. Microsoft says it is also working on adding support for syncing text messaged and general notifications between smartphone and PC....

The company explains Sticky Notes are available in a special tab in the OneNote app on Android and iOS. We were hoping the service would be more dynamic and allow users to put notes anywhere on the OS. Instead, Sticky Notes are limited to the new OneNote experience on mobile. Microsoft’s Laura Butler, who explained the integration on Twitter: “The feature is part of an updated OneNote app for mobile, which features a new design (if your app is still purple you have the older version)....

The adapter was first announced in May of 2017 for release later that year. The year ended with no word from Microsoft, before it eventually announced a delay in March 2018 – a year later. At that point, it told consumers the device wouldn’t launch until the end of the year, so the June 29 release is a pleasant surprise.
